Albany Fire Chief James Carswell says this level is well above the flood stage but only minor flooding around the river basin is expected
The Flint River is expected to crest at nearly 30 feet on Tuesday.
Albany Fire Chief James Carswell says this level is well above the flood stage but only minor flooding around the river basin is expected. Carswell, and Albany Public Works Director Phil Roberson say the rain that has soaked southwest Georgia doesn't compare to the floods of 1994 and 1998. Carswell says the biggest problem we have with the river right now is that it is very swollen and is covering the city's drainage pipes, and that’s making it difficult to pump water out. City officials say some Albany neighborhoods are still at risk of flooding and the city is taking the proper steps to keep residents safe.
Rain and flooding forced the closing of several roads and highways in southwest Georgia.
