The Lee County Sheriff's Department is hoping to cash in on President Obama's stimulus plan
The Lee County Sheriff's Department is hoping to cash in on President Obama's stimulus plan.
The department received approval from the Lee County Commission on Wednesday to apply for a grant that would fund five deputies. The grant will pay the entry level salaries and benefits for three years, and then it will be up to the county to foot the bill. Sheriff Reggie Rachals says this will make a big difference to Lee County.
Meanwhile, the Sheriff's Department’s 911 System could be switching to an 800 megahertz two-way radio system. The total project could cost $1M dollars. No decision was made during last night meeting. And, the Grand Island Club is preparing to initiative a big membership drive. “We're going to give folks that do sign up for a yearly contract, they'll have two free months, the seventh month will be free, the 13th month, an additional month, will be free and it will include two months at the driving range also free,” said Grand Island Manager Vic McKinley.
McKinley hopes the drive will bring more southwest Georgians to the golf course to help keep it a thriving business for Lee County.
