Habitat for Humanity cuts 10 percent of staff, 16 workers lose jobs in Americus
(AP) -- Habitat for Humanity International has eliminated about 10 percent of its staff to reduce its operating costs to better weather the economic downturn.
The organization says in a statement that 73 jobs were cut Tuesday. Of those, 15 were vacant positions. Spokesman Duane Bates said 13 positions were cut in Atlanta and 16 in Americus, Georgia. The other jobs were based at various locations
in the U.S. and in the organization's offices in Asia, Europe, Central America and Africa.
Laid off staff members received separation packages and career counseling.
