Georgia House cuts two major projects in Albany from the 2010 budget
The Georgia House of Representatives Appropriations Committee cut two major projects from its 2010 budget, Albany State’s Ray Charles Center and Darton College’s offer to buy the Albany Museum of Art property.
ASU had planned to build the 90,000 square feet Ray Charles Fine Arts Center with a completion date of 2012, but it was eliminated from next year's state budget. T he other considerable cut was Darton’s bid to purchase the $1.6 million property where the Albany Museum of Art is located.
State Representative Winfred Dukes says he’s confident the two projects will resurface. “The Georgia Senate has the same opportunity to add and cut projects as we do. What the Senators will be doing, and our Senator will be working to see if she can get the project back in the budget. It’s a really good chance that they can do it. We feel confident that we can,” said Dukes.
