Peanut farmers across Georgia received great news Thursday as the Georgia Peanut Commission gave $1 million dollars in peanut research funding.

Over 50 research projects, 45 state and seven federal projects stem from the funds provided by the Georgia Peanut Commission, and the numbers will continue to grow helping researchers and local farmers like Wes Shannon.

“The dollar that I can create by growing peanuts by selling them in my community to my understanding, that dollar will turn over five times in my community. Not only is this dollar important to me, it’s very important to all of southwest Georgia,” said Shannon.
