Lee County leaders addressed several topics at their director's meeting today, including the Georgia Department of Community Affair's "Community of Opportunity Program".
The community driven initiative looks at comprehensive plans to decrease poverty and improve the community's outlook within a two-year period. The DCA provides a $5,000 grant with both the city and county. Each must front $1,250 to start the program. “It brings the community, the leaders as well as the citizens together. It offers them opportunity to look at where the community is, and where do they want their community to go,” said DCA representative Spencer Mueller.
Leesburg Mayor Jim Quinn says the program is a must for the city.
