County uses imminent domain to complete project

Today, the Dougherty County Commission approved the action to take imminent domain on two parcels of land in order to make way for the expansion of Gillionville Road.

The county attorney, Spencer Lee, told the commission that they made offers to the owners of the land, but were refused.  Since no one lives on the land, they will enforce imminent domain.  If the land could not be obtained, the ten million dollar expansion could not take place.

Lee says it's quite common in situations like this to use imminent domain.
