Police sting lands 7 suspected prostitutes in jail

The Albany Drug Unit arrested seven suspected prostitutes Thursday night.

Officers targeted streets along Highland Avenue and South Harding.  Six women and one man were charged with prostitution and solicitation.  Captain Andy Exum says officers also plan to target people soliciting prostitutes.

“Most of them have drug problems and no telling what other problems, diseases they may have and it just continues to spread throughout the community.  The people don't stop and think what they're actually taking home when they pick up these people,” Exum said.

Police say one of the women they arrested, 35-year-old Tammy Gibbs, faked a seizure and was taken to the hospital where she discharged herself.  Police are still looking for her.
