Law enforcement officials in Dougherty County worry about possible state budget cuts
Georgia lawmakers will hold more budget hearings this week, and several state agencies are concerned about possible cutbacks.
One of those agencies is the Georgia Sheriff’s Association. Governor Perdue has asked the organization to reduce its overall budget by 10%. Dougherty County law enforcement officials say cutting personnel isn’t safe for our community. Governor Perdue has also proposed closing the GBI crime labs in Moultrie and Columbus, which could possibly hold up criminal cases in Dougherty County.
Dougherty County Sheriff Kevin Sproul says jail overcrowding and operational costs could skyrocket if Georgia lawmakers pass a proposal to cut state prison facilities.
