Homebuilders in Georgia ask Congress for help to jumpstart the housing market
The Home Builders Association of Georgia is urging lawmakers to support financial incentives they believe will get the housing market moving again.
Homebuilders across Georgia say Congress must pass legislation giving home buyers tax credits and fixed 30-year mortgage rates. Local contractors say Southwest Georgians cannot afford to buy homes with current market conditions, and they are in desperate need for economic stimulus. Homebuilder and NAHB State Representative Chad McDonald says many builders have diversified their services to stay in business. He says many are building rental properties and remodeling instead of building new homes.
Homebuilders and construction work is one of southwest Georgia’s top employers, and McDonald says the housing crisis is keeping hundreds of construction workers out of a job.
