Among other things like screen names and email addresses, sex offenders in Georgia will now be required to hand over their passwords
In an effort to better monitor where sex offenders go on the internet, officials are now requiring the passwords of registered sex offenders.
Offenders have been met with limitations before, and some may argue this new law to be a violation of their privacy rights. However, officials say offenders gave up their rights when they decided to violate the privacy of those they molested. Dougherty County Police Chief Don Cheek says with the prevalence of the internet, children are much more easily a target than anywhere else. So far, Utah is the only other state that requires a password from its offenders.
Chief Cheek warns parents to keep an eye on their children's activities, especially educators since children go online frequently at school.
