LONDON (AP) -- Dozens of environmental activists have been arrested after storming a secure area at London's Stansted airport.
Members of the group chained themselves together in a protest against pollution caused by air travel and a possible expansion of the airport. They staged the protest near the taxi area for planes, causing the cancellation of dozens of flights.
As police worked to clear the protesters, thousands of passengers were trying to get information about flights. Budget airline Ryanair accused the airport's operator of failing to clear the protesters quickly enough.
The group Plane Stupid is known for attention-grabbing stunts and has a history of dodging strict security. In July one of the group's activists unsuccessfully tried to glue himself to Prime Minister Gordon Brown at an awards ceremony.
