As the holidays approach citizens will be receiving phone calls from charities asking for donations. 

During this same time scam artists will be making phone calls too, pretending to be from a charity. Ed Deming, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Albany, advises people to ask for credentials of someone soliciting money from them.

Experts say it is best not to give out personal and financial information over the phone, instead ask that materials with the charity’s letterhead be sent to you.
