ALBANY, GA -- In our Facebook story of the day you wanted to know which snakes are native to the southwest Georgia area.
Folks over at Chehaw Park say there are many snakes both venomous and non venomous that are native to the area.
The copperhead and canebrake snake, also known as the timber snake, can be found in our region. Both of these animals are venomous.
Officials say when it comes to snakes, if you don't know whether or not they are harmful, it's best to leave them alone.
“There are nursery rhymes telling people whether it's red or black or red or yellow. My rule of thumb is if you don't know what it is, don't touch it,” said Ben Roberts, with Chehaw Park.
