LEESBURG, GA --
The tragic events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Newtown, Connecticut have shocked people around the globe. 15-year-old Draven Oaks, from Leesburg, Georgia, was no exception.

"I was surprised that someone would do that to little five, six, and seven-year-olds, and I was just shocked," said Oaks.

So shocked by the events that claimed 27 lives; which included 20 children and six teachers, that he knew he had to do something, in remembrance of the victims. That's when he came up with the idea to hold a memorial service.

With the help of his mother, Oaks approached Leesburg Mayor Jim Quinn.

"I'm glad somebody had the idea, I'm glad somebody went forward with it, he stepped up, he coordinated it, he got everybody together," said Quinn.

And so Sunday evening, city officials and members of the community, gathered at the gazebo, in downtown Leesburg, in song and prayer, to remember those 27 lives that were taken too early, and to reflect on how these unthinkable actions, could have happened anywhere.

"I've had kids come up through these schools, I've got kids here in school now, and you think back at this situation, and you look and say, wow, that could have been one of my kids years ago, or one of my grandkids now," said Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals.

Rachals went on to say that there's no way to predict when and where an attack like this will happen, all you can really do is prepare, and train for that type of situation, which is exactly what the Sheriff's Office is doing.
