ALBANY, GA. --

To commemorate the 71st anniversary of Pearl Harbor local veterans sat down to a dinner among peers.

The American Legion Post 30 held a dinner Friday night with veterans from World War II and other major U.S. wars.

Although no Pear Harbor survivors were in attendance, there were several World War II veterans.

Retired U.S. Marine Silas Barnes was captured as a prisoner of war in 1942. He remembers the day of the Peal Harbor attack.

“For us it was the middle of the night and of course the officers came through and woke us up and said that the Japanese had attacked Pearl Harbor and we was at war with the Japanese,” said Silas Barnes, Retired U.S. Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant.

During World War II Silas Barnes spent three years as a prisoner of war before being released in 1945.
