ALBANY, GA --

Dr. Nancy Dawson has held lectures at Albany State University throughout the week to educate the public on the issue of slavery.

Thursday afternoon she tackled the movie "Django Unchained" and it's portrayal of slavery.

Dr. Dawson engaged students by asking what they thought of the film.

Students also received a lesson on slave resistance, abolition, and historical truth seeking.

Several professors attended the course with their students.

“Doing the work that's necessary helps keep us stable and tapped in to who we are as human being and more specifically as people of African descent and African heritage,” said Dr. Sophia Woodard, ASU Asst. Professor of History and Political Science.

Dr. Woodard says after participating in this session she hopes her students uncover the truth behind their blood lines.
