ALBANY, GA. --

In support of the many University of Georgia alumni in the southwest Georgia area who will participate in the Snickers Marathon, the UGA alumni are here to cheer them on.

Friday night the Alumni Association served a carb heavy dinner to fuel runners as a way to prepare for the big race.

Georgia school officials say since obesity is a concern throughout the state, they started a program called 'Dawgs on the Move' to support the university's anti-obesity initiative.

“Our chapters around the state will be doing similar kinds of activities and races in their communities encouraging families to come out and do 5K's and more serious athletes to take on the marathon and even 5k runners to grow into some of the longer races,” said Deborah Dietzler, Executive Director of the University of Georgia Alumni Association.

Although carbohydrates were on the menu to help athletes through their run, the meal also included salad as a balance.
