Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany will unveil some shiny new products donated through a collaborative partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) ENERGY STAR program, Samsung and Sears. Samsung has donated approximately $2,500 worth of ENERGY STAR qualified appliances to the Club. Sears, an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award winner, will activate its Responsible Appliance Disposal (RAD) Program by removing the end-of-life appliances and electronics, as well as handling the installation of the donations.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany, Jefferson Street Unit has received a new washer and dryer for collecting over 700 pledges from club members, parents and community people promising to make changes in their homes to conserve energy. Mrs. Mary Petty of the Water Gas & Light Commission will talk with the club members on the importance of conserving energy in their homes, and showing them simple ways to do so.

ENERGY STAR began a partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) on Earth Day 2009 to engage kids in community service projects related to energy efficiency. Since that time, more than 90 Boys & Girls Clubs have participated in the "Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR initiative, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany.

The Change World, Start with ENERGY STAR initiative teaches young people and their families how to save energy, save money and fight climate change. The initiative encourages all Americans to join a growing community of individuals who have pledged to take small, individual steps to fight climate change.
