ALBANY, GA -- Albany Crime Stoppers says as the holidays near, crimes are increasing in both quantity and severity -- which also makes tips payouts higher. The volunteer organization met on Tuesday to go over the past month's tips and payouts. Representatives from the Albany Police Department, Dougherty County Police, Dougherty County Sheriff's Office and Marine Corps Logistics Base reported any tips that led to arrests or information needed. There were three tips that helped officials since the last meeting and Crime Stoppers President Jason Thornhill says the group is an effective way of helping with crime. Thornhill says especially with tough times and holiday shopping, people are motivated by money so the tips are steadily coming in.
