ALBANY, GA --
In our Facebook Story of the Day, you wanted to know if southwest Georgia parents should be worried about their child getting the mumps.

FOX 31 spoke to Dr. Craig Hughes with Southwest Georgia Pediatrics who said while mumps isn’t a disease that we see many cases of anymore, it is still something to be worried about.

Hughes says the two most recent cases were in 2011 and in 2009, so the disease does still exist.

He also says parents still need to be getting their children vaccinated just in-case. Hughes explained that Mumps is actually a viral infection, which means there are really no medications that doctors can give to completely heal a child when they catch it, which is why it’s so important for children to be vaccinated.
