Supreme Court of Georgia Chief Justice Carol W. Hunstein being sworn in by former Georgia governor Zell Miller as Supreme Court Justice in 2009.

ATLANTA, GA -- Officials with the Supreme Court of Georgia say that Chief Justice Carol W. Hunstein has been chosen as the 2013 recipient of the Charles L. Weltner Freedom of Information Award by the Georgia First Amendment Foundation.
The award is named for Charles Weltner, who was Georgia’s 23rd Chief Justice and a crusader for open government and civil rights.
“Hunstein is being honored as an unwavering supporter of public access to the courts and a strong proponent of government transparency at all levels,” the Foundation has said in a statement.
“This award means a lot to me,” said Chief Justice Hunstein in the statement. “I have been privileged to serve Georgia citizens, and if I have managed to help keep their government and courtrooms open, then I am grateful to have had that opportunity.”
