ALBANY, GA -- It's important to always be prepared for severe weather and that includes while driving in your car.
Experts recommend keeping and emergency roadside kit in your trunk including items such as water, jumper cables, blankets, reflectors and even a first aid kit. Of course if you can avoid it, experts say it's best to stay off the road in bad weather.
"You see that water and it's standing there, you don't know if under that water the road has given way, and it only takes a small amount of water to make a vehicle actually hydroplane," said the Albany-Dougherty EMA deputy director Jim Vaught.
If it's a case where you are being evacuated from your home, it's recommended you throw your 72 hour home emergency kit in your car as well.
