ALBANY, GA --
In our Facebook story of the day, you wanted to know how big of a problem drug overdoses are locally.

FOX 31 spoke to both the Dougherty County EMS and Lee County Sheriff’s office who agree that there is a local drug and drug overdose problem, but it’s not just an issue here, it’s nationwide.

Phillip Jackson, a paramedic supervisor, from the Dougherty County EMS said they responded to 118 drug overdose calls in 2012. Jackson said he believes there would be more than that but most people don’t call 911 in fear of getting into trouble with the law.

Lieutenant Colonel Chris Owens with the Lee County Sheriff’s office said in the month of January they responded to 15 calls related to drug overdose.  Owens also said he believes the biggest problem we have locally when it comes to drugs is with prescription pills.
