ALBANY, GA --
Officials with the Dougherty County Board of Commissioners received information Monday morning from an audit company looking at the budget as a whole.

Reports are that since July of 2012, the commission has actually put back $132,674 into reserve funds, instead of losing $1.9 million over the last year.

Commissioners say reserves are used to balance the budget over the course of the year, and through spending less and budgeting more, they were able to create this surplus.

Because of these budgeting measures, the commission will now have $9.6 million available in their unassigned fund balance which is $2.5 million more than what they would've had without that surplus.

The audit company will be presenting this information next week at the board's February 25th session.
