ALBANY, GA --
Although north Georgia received the brunt of Wednesday night's storm, towns in South Georgia like Americus are also in disaster relief mode after multiple families were displaced from their homes.

The Flint River Chapter of the American Red Cross put up three different families in hotels after their houses were damaged or disrupted by fallen trees. Randy Robertson's house sustained the most damage after a tree fell onto his one-story home, taking out half of the first floor's roof.

Another family's car was crushed and their roof was damaged after separate trees fell on them during the storm that locals say blew through the town of Americus in what felt like seconds.

Emergency Services Program Manager at the Flint River Chapter of the American Red Cross Nigel Poole says his office was on standby throughout the storm and reached out to any families who may have needed help once it was over.

Poole says the office follows a protocol that begins with the larger picture of a state or region then funnels their efforts down to towns, streets and finally individual families that may need food, clothing or shelter.

All 11 chapters of the American Red Cross in Georgia are now responsible for participating in two daily conference calls to relay information and provide assistance to fellow chapters that may need help .

Poole says from this point on they'll continue assessing damage and report all information back to the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.
