ALBANY, GA. --

Results from the Georgia Department of Education's new school rating system shows that teacher scores have been skewed to the positive.

The study was conducted in the state's 26 'Race to the Top' pilot districts.

Dougherty and Ben Hill County schools are included in that list.

The 2012 ‘Teacher and Leader Key Effectiveness System Report’ shows that about 5,800 teacher scores were skewed.

Less than one percent of teachers classified as ineffective, while one in five rated as exemplary.

“For one, the positive skew of the data reflects the influence of the short time frame to learn in the pilot. Districts had about four to six months to learn a new system. Then there's the burden of doing two evaluations and the shift from a binary system to a four level performance regroup,” said Avis King, Deputy Superintendent for School Improvement.

King says with slight revisions and training, teachers will be able to positively affect the Georgia school system in years to come.
