ALBANY, GA. --

One Georgia airport is topping all airports nationwide when it comes to finding guns.

Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport tops the list nationally for the number of guns that were confiscated in 2012 with 100 guns collected.

Officials with the Southwest Georgia Regional airport say that 2012 was a quiet year for them with no guns discovered and only two discovered in 2011. Other items that were prohibited and discovered included ammunition and knives.

Although people may have a permit to carry, it doesn't mean they can carry their firearms everywhere say officials.

“You do have restrictions that are superseded by federal law and this would be the one instance where if you take a protective weapon in the area of TSA you will be subjected to federal prosecution,” said Greg Edwards, Dougherty County District Attorney.

FOX 31 reached out to the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport to see how many firearms were obtained here in Albany; however we've yet to receive an update on our local numbers.
