ALBANY, GA --

5-months after winning the July primary, Michael Fowler was sworn in as Dougherty County Coroner.

The honorable Judge, Nancy Stephenson, administered the oath of office, to Fowler, at the government center this morning.

Family and friends gathered to watch Fowler be sworn in, who said his experience will help him bring a lot to office.

"I feel that I can help the coroner’s office with the expertise and knowledge that I gained from the crime lab and also on the disaster team, just knowledge I can bring to Albany to try to enhance that office," said Fowler.

One of the first things Fowler said he wants to do is implement a new system, which will help families obtain death certificates faster.
