ALBANY, GA -- An Albany police officer patrolling West Oglethorpe Sunday night ended up getting a smoky surprise.

The officer was patrolling the 1000 block of West Oglethorpe Boulevard around 10 PM when a spotted a suspicious white male walking in the area.

The suspect is described as being 40 to 50 years old, around 5'10", weighing 190 pounds and last seen wearing a white polo striped shirt and blue jeans.

Police say that when the officer approached him, he ran and dropped a backpack which started to smoke after being dropped.

Extra officers and the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit were called to the scene and it was determined that it was a portable meth lab.
