A post has been going around Facebook, warning people about a new carjacking scheme. In the Facebook story of the day you wanted to know if it has happened in our area.

The post warns of carjackers placing a piece of paper on the back window of a car to lure drivers out of their vehicle, when the driver exits the vehicle to remove the paper, the carjacker strikes. According to the Albany Police Department this hasn’t happened in our area, but you still should take precautions.

“Just be safe, be aware of your surroundings, I suggest that everyone be very aware of their surroundings. It is the holiday season, and I think that people don't look around, they just get in their vehicle, and I think that people need to be aware of their surrounding and try to stay near lit areas,” said Lt. Carmelita Preston.

APD said carjacking, in general, are rare, but if you should fall victim to one, it’s best to cooperate.
