ALBANY, GA -- Commissioners with the City of Albany discussed the possibility of FOX 31, streaming their nightly meetings.
Members of the board also voiced their concerns that streaming the meetings online may not be fair to everyone, being that some viewers do not have access to a computer or the internet. Commissioners also stated they would reserve the right to void the agreement at any time, should they allow the meetings to be streamed on the internet.
Also emphasized was the importance of allowing all media outlets the opportunity to use the technology. Members argued that FOX 31 and the Albany Herald should not be the only ones permitted to stream the meetings. However City Manager James Taylor assured those concerned that other media outlets had been given the option, but have not shown any interest at this point.
The board has tabled the issue for the time being and will revisit it in the coming weeks.
