ALBANY, GA -- A Dougherty County School Teacher is facing a hearing before the school board for striking a student.

Turner Elementary School teacher Tracey Drayton and her attorney went before the school board Tuesday morning.

Drayton's attorney says she admits to hitting the student, who was acting out, with an open hand.

Turner Elementary School Principal Gail Solomon recommends that she be suspended 30 days without pay, attend anger management classes, be relocated to another school, and be on probation before returning to work.

Dougherty County School Board Superintendent Joshua Murfree did not agree with the principal and recommended termination.

The ongoing meeting before the members of the school board with determine her status with the school board.

At the end of the hearing, Drayton's punishment as determined by the school board will be the recommendation from the Turner Elementary Principal Gail Solomon: suspended 30 days without pay, attend anger management classes, be relocated to another school, and be on probation before returning to work.

"She was wrong for putting her hands on the student, pulling the student, for that we agreed with the recommendation of the principal", said the school board chairman Rev. James Bush.

Bush said they took into consideration the teachers good record, when decided upon the punishment.

The incident isn't over for Drayton just yet, she still faces a criminal misdemeanor charge of simple battery.
