ALBANY, GA --
The Dougherty County School System held a Finance and Personnel meeting Thursday morning.

One of their main topics of discussion was an alcohol use and abuse prevention grant.

Officials say the size of the grant has increased from under to $20,000 to over $105,000.

The purpose of the grant is to help schools educate children on alcohol abuse and to prevent abuse at an earlier age.

"There are other ways that they can live other then getting involved in drugs, and then show them that if they (get in to) alcohol it can lead to other drugs and then eventually cause them to not have the type of life they would like to live", said Barbara Turner, the Director of Student Services.

The grant has been sent to Dougherty County School Board for review to make sure being spent properly.
