ALBANY, GA --
The Water Gas and Light Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a plot of land at the west end of Kensington Ct. in Northwest Albany.

The land was purchased for just over $45,000 and will be the future location of a new water tower.

This tower will allow the fire department to provide better fire protection.

Assistant General Manager of Operations, Keith Goodin, said it will also help with water pressure in the area; "the new water tower is needed to have the pressure in Northwest Albany where it should be. The pressure gets lower as things get built, because there's more water usage."

There's no set schedule on when construction will begin but it's expected to be started by next September.
