ALBANY, GA -- New details were revealed Wednesday regarding the death of a Police K-9 inside a vehicle.

We spoke with Warwick Police Department Chief, David Morris who says officer T.J. Frye had left town for the weekend and the K-9 got into his personal vehicle, causing the door to close behind it.

Officer Frye has since resigned from the department, which Chief Morris says is standard protocol with this kind of incident.

The department has officially handed the investigation over to the Worth County District Attorney's office. Officials with the DA are reportedly looking to exhume the dog and have it analyzed for traces of heat exhaustion.

This investigation is still underway and we will keep you connected as details become available.
