ALBANY, GA -- In our Facebook Story of the Day we asked, "what should be in a family disaster plan?" With hurricane season in full swing it's more important than ever for families to be prepared for worst case scenarios.

Deputy Director for Emergency Management, Jim Vaught listed the following tips that could help your family be prepared in a disaster.

First make sure your family has an escape route planned, then figure out a spot where everyone can meet should you get separated. Secondly, have an out-of-state contact that everyone can call and "check-in" should you get separated and can't get to the meeting point.

Vaught also suggests signing up for "Code Red" alerts on your cell phone and email so you can know when a disaster is on the way.

Tune into the FOX 31 News at 10:00 PM for more tips on how to stay safe during a disaster.
