ALBANY,GA --
In Wednesday's Facebook story of the day, you wanted to know more about the history of the Manufactured Gas plant owned by Water, Gas and Light
.

The plant was built in 1912 at the end of Society Avenue.

For energy, workers would heat coal to extreme temperatures and then pour oil over them.

"The oil made a steam and that was captured, which was a gas, it was captured, held in storage tanks and put in compressors and put in pipelines and it serves streetlights and heating for downtown Albany," says Assistant General Manager of Operations Keith Goodin.

The plant was closed in 1948 and they began dismantling the it in 1961.
