Albany City Commissioners discussed the potential new fee.
 /
Ashley Knight
ALBANY, GA -- The City of Albany is looking into a
storm water
utility fee that would help fund the city's storm water and sewer runoff problem.
Often,
storm water
and sewer end up overwhelming the sanitary sewer treatment plant.
Public works is needing to separate the city's storm water and sewer, but it will cost $100 million.
A storm water utility fee, if implemented, would charge a small fee to those businesses and properties that create runoff. Americus has a similar program that produces $1 million a year in revenue.
A decision will not be made immediately, there will be public forums on the issue but the dates have not yet been set.
