ALBANY, GA --
Shots rang out shortly before 4 a.m. in the Shackleford Shopping Center on East Oglethorpe Sunday morning - claiming one man's life and injuring four others.

"At the time it was reported there was multiple victim's injuries in this shooting and there was one person actually deceased in this shooting," said Investigator Arthur Tyler

24-year-old Dontavious Luke was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital. His 28-year-old brother Montravious was shot in the chest and side, 21-year-old Whitney Williams was struck in the thigh, and 24-year-old Kelvin Drake was hit in both hands. 31-year-old Cartez Haines sustained injuries from being hit in the head with a shoe.

Now officials are trying to determine if this incident is gang-related.

"We have a collaborative effort with our robbery/homicide unit to investigate any details that may be related to this activity," said Corporal Prurince Dice of the APD Gang Unit.

Investigators aren’t the only ones trying to piece things together - during the shooting, the windows of two nearby businesses were shattered.

"I was really disappointed because this kind of thing occurring is having to put up temporary boards and time and the money involved. With that said, it's really a costly situation," said Shabazz Fish Supreme owner Gordon Hall.

Hall estimates the window will cost nearly a thousand dollars to fix but he's prepared to open his doors tomorrow. Both officials and Hall say frequent customers should not worry about their safety in the shopping center.

"It is safe to say that this is still a safe area and people shouldn't be frightened and afraid to come to the Woodall's parking lot in the Shackleford area,” said Tyler.

"My business is safe, my environment is safe during my business hours. There is no reason to have any apprehension about coming to Shabazz," said Hall.

Hall says he feels great sympathy for Dontavious's family and hopes others can learn from this situation.

Investigators are trying to solve this case as quickly as possible. Their first step is figuring out if it’s related to another two shootings that happened within an hour from this fatal incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Albany Police Department or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 229-436-TIPS, that’s 229-436-8477.
