ALBANY, GA -- An early morning accident on US 82 / State Route 520 westbound led to lane closures for several hours

A semi-truck and garbage truck collided shortly after 9:30 AM.

Georgia State Patrol says that the garbage truck was picking up trash at a residence when the semi-truck struck the garbage truck.

Officers say that the the semi driver and two men with the garbage truck were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Officials with the Georgia Department of Transportation say that the westbound lanes were closed as maintenance crews worked to get the roadway reopened. The eastbound section of US 82 was reduced to one lane in each direction and westbound traffic was shifted to the one lane of the eastbound side by law enforcement.

Craig Solomon with GDOT says that the westbound lanes of US 82 were reopened shortly after 1:30 PM.
