ALBANY, GA --
Dougherty County Police Chief Don Cheek is hailing the recent National Night Out as a success.

He says it keeps getting bigger every year. Cheek estimates that if they had to rent all the equipment or buy all the supplies that were donated, the event would have cost around $10,000.

Cheek says this is a testament to the community's dedication to helping the area and the youth.

Commissioner Jack Stone also mentioned that without events like these, students may be more prone to joining gangs or trying drugs. He lauds these community events as a great to keep kids active in the community so they will become responsible and productive citizens.
