ALBANY, GA. --

Albany's East Town Civic League has gotten a generous donation from AT&T that they hope will help their cause to service those in need.

Wednesday afternoon in the Albany Mayor's Office a representative from AT&T presented the chairperson of the league with a $5,000 check.

The East Town Civic League has provided food boxes to the hungry, school supplies to needy children, and they've also participated in relief efforts in Tuscaloosa, Alabama after last year's tornadoes.

The chairperson of the league says she aims to reach outside of the box and go anywhere there is a need.

“We assist with the Boys and Girls Club and so anything we can do to assist them. Whatever the community needs we are there because sometimes we have to reach outside the box,” says Johnnie Hammond, Chairperson of the East Town Civic League.

Hammond says she plans to use the money to buy a truck load of food from the Second Harvest Food Bank to help feed more people.
