ALBANY, GA --
The Albany Fire Department responded to a fire at 1510 Skylark Lane around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Firemen arrived to find flames and heavy smoke coming from the roof of the home - which was empty while the family was on vacation.

The team was able to put out the flames in just under an hour but the damage was already done.

"We had heavy fire damage to the attic, fire damage to the interior of the house, and heavy smoke and water damage throughout the structure," said Battalion Chief, Clarence Haynes.

The fire department estimates the damages total around $100,000 - $80,000 to the structure and $20,000 to the contents.

Fire officials say they know what started the fire and it is not a case of arson but they can’t release the details until the family gets home.
