ALBANY, GA. --

A recently retired police captain has received recognition for his efforts to curb crime in southwest Georgia.

Retired Dougherty County Police Captain, Jimmy Sexton, was honored by the Crime Stoppers board for being a link between Crime Stoppers and law enforcement.

Sexton sat on the board before retiring from the police force.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting, officials introduced a new fundraiser.

This year the Octoberfest will be held on October 20th.

“The money is always used to keep this organization going. It precipitates what we do. It just keeps it going. All the money that's placed into our organization is paid right out for rewards,” says Jason Thornhill, President of the Crime Stoppers board.
