ALBANY,GA --
Southwest Georgia farmers could soon see their produce sold at local grocery stores and in our school lunch rooms.

The 'Southwest Georgia Project for Community Education' asked for permission from the county to apply for a grant that would help build a food hub in Albany.

Food processed at the plant would be sold to grocery stores and even possibly to local schools.

“It's time for Albany, for southwest Georgia to tout what it is that we do here well and one of the things we do here is grow produce and vegetables,” says Grants Projects Coordinator Harriet Hollis.

If Albany wins the million dollar grant, the facility will accommodate student field trips to better teach youth about the importance of local produce and healthy eating habits.
