For the 4th of July, the Albany Police Department is strictly enforcing the city’s 11:00 p.m. youth curfew ordinance.

This measure is to protect children and teens after Wednesday’s fireworks show.

Officials say last year the fireworks show ended just after 10:00 p.m. and there were still children and youths in the area well after 12:00 midnight.

This year they aren't accepting excuses.

For those parents who choose to drop their kids off to event, officers are sending out a warning to be on time in picking them up.

“The first time that we make contact with the child, that can be a violation or it could be that we're letting them know that now you're being warned. You need to call your parents. Once the parents get here, if it's after 11:00 p.m. the parent could be given a violation,” says Garnett Lincey, Albany Police Gang Unit Investigator.

The 11:00 p.m. curfew will be enforced for anyone under the age of 18.
