ALBANY, GA --
The Lee County Board of Commissioners met Tuesday to discuss several issues including the 2012-2013 budget.

With the budget passing the board, Chairman Ed Duffy says this was a huge step for the next calendar year.

"We have not had a tax increase in seven years in Lee County. We are not furloughing any employees, and we're having no layoffs. And this is a credit to this board of commissioners who were able to balance this budget over the last four years, by adding to reserves," said Duffy.

Each member of the board seemed both satisfied and confident that the 2012-2013 budget will be a win for every Lee County employee, citizen, and business owner.

And the budget may be one of the most important things the committee passes all year long. With the public in mind, Rick Muggridge says that is why they've been so successful over the last four years.

The last four years we've hired 29 public safety employees. That's a big deal to me, and that's an exciting thing. So even though things are tight, and we have cut here and cut there, we've been able to make sure that the important things got funded.

The board will adjourn through the Fourth of July holiday, and reconvene on July 10th at 6:00 pm.
