ALBANY, GA --
Former POW Jessica Lynch made a visit to southwest Georgia as she toured Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Wednesday morning

Lynch was in the area not only to tour Phoebe Sumter, but to also act as the keynote speaker for the Sumter County Boys & Girls Club Annual Steak & Stake fundraiser Tuesday night.

Lynch said that "this is definitely one of the most impressive hospitals I have ever seen" of the Phoebe Sumter facility which opened after a tornado destroyed the old hospital in March 2007.

Lynch words meant a lot to the hospital, "For her to say that our hospital was one of the nicest she's ever seen, it really puts a big smile on your face. It kind of lets us know and affirms what we already knew, that we have a state of the art facility, but she also talked about how nice the people were and that's just as important." said Phoebe Sumter's Marketing Director Marcus Johnson

During the visit, Lynch visited the chapel to see the stain glass windows from the chapel, which were recovered undamaged from the 2007 tornado. "That is an awesome story, and shows how important faith is and how it can get you through rough times" added Lynch.

Jessica Lynch is a former soldier in the United States army. She served during the 2003 invasion of Iraq and was taken as a prisoner war where she was later rescued by American forces according to Biography.com.
