ALBANY, GA --
In Thursday’s Facebook story of the day, you wanted to know what the requirements are to becoming an Albany police officer are.

In order to be considered for the program, you must be a US citizen at least 20 years of age or older, posses a valid driver’s license and high school diploma or G.E.D.

If you meet all the requirements and are selected to continue with program, nine months of tests and training is all that stands between you and becoming an officer.

Lieutenant Catherine Gervin warns that APD does not hire year round, "We hire around the police academy cycles, there’s normally an academy that begins in January, April, July, and October."

Lt. Gervin also says good candidates should be patient and have a desire to serve the community.
